Initially, it seemed kind of odd that a band as super-famous and well respected as Dave Holland’s quintet would be opening for the former bandleader from The Tonight Show. But right out of the gate, the Branford Marsalis Quartet was as close to a raging inferno of ensemble playing and individual talent you could expect to hear from anyone who wasn’t in Miles Davis’ band during the 1960s.
