Tim Hill. (G) 77 min. Opens June 16.
The lazy, lasagna-loving cat returns in this sequel featuring Bill
Murray as the voice of Garfield, and while the animated orange ball’s
bulging green eyes and loveable grin make the film almost worthwhile,
the predictability of this fat feline doesn't give Murray much to work
with.
A jealous Garfield spends his time lumbering after annoyingly
sheepish owner Jon Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer), hoping Jon doesn’t propose
to his girlfriend (Jennifer Love Hewitt). After ending up in England,
Garfield is mistaken for a British cat who inherited a palace, which
pits him against megalomaniac villain Dargis (Billy Connolly) and wins
him a bunch of talking farm animal friends who might as well have
walked off the set of Babe. Garfield quickly realizes the uppity British lifestyle doesn't suit his all-American slobbery.
The fuzzy
Garfield will win the hearts of kids and may
impress the odd parent. Keep your ears open for the voices of Richard
E. Grant, Bob Hoskins, Sharon Osbourne, Tim Curry, Rhys Ifans and
Vinnie Jones.
