Long-time Toronto designers and owners of Comrags (654 Queen W., 416-360-7249)
Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish showed off their polished Fall/Winter
2007 collection at this year's L'Oréal Fashion Week. A “by invitation
only” crowd previewed the Toronto-friendly mix of muted dark colours
and dull blacks (there was the occasional flash of crimson). Gunhouse
and Cornish, who have maintained the local label for over 20 years,
offered a touch of their signature androgyny with black flat oxfords
and tailored suit jackets paired with skirts and dresses. The fabrics,
which the designers say are the starting point for all their
collections, include knitted wool and ridged taffeta to give a
textured, masculine feel to more feminine-shaped pieces. Only six
months till these styles hit the rack, so put those pennies away for
autumn days.
