The Further Adventures of Antoine Feval

Editorial Rating:

In this sequel to last year’s runaway one-man smash, veteran Fringe raconteur Chris Gibbs plays the dim-witted sidekick to a Victorian sleuth by the name of Antoine Feval, and spends the hour spinning a lengthy anecdote that keeps the listener pinned on the edge of their seat. Unencumbered by props, music or light effects, he works his way through a captivating mystery plot, veering off into an endless stream of digressions along the way. In fact, Gibbs is such a skilled improviser that he barely has time to do justice to the play’s ending, yet it somehow doesn’t seem to matter, because his endearing mannerisms alone are worth the price of admission.

Chris Gibbs delivers a show that is both charming and hilarious. Highly recommended.

Chris Hilarious Gibbs
Saw the show on a damp late Tuesday night and it was bloody hilarious. I am amazed Chris isn't a Canadian legend, and this show should be a CBC radio show...it's brilliantly crafted and performed with a stunning comedic genius that cannot compare anywhere else on the Fringe, let alone in Canada. Go see it, give yourself a treat...and then campaign for CBC to put this man on the radio! He is our answer to Spike Milligan, Peter Sellars and Hugh Laurie in one stellar package!

So glad Chris got the cancelled spot!
HI-larious from start to over-time end 65 minutes later. Didn't want the show to end at all, ya know? Chris Gibbs has got this concept down to an art and we were all taking it in. I saw it Sunday and didn't see the problems cited in the review. He was also improvising a lot as things happened and that just made it more fun. Wow, and to think we got to see this because of a cancellation. What luck for Toronto. By the way, get there early. It pretty much sold out on the Sunday.

A Gibbs is a Gibbs is a ....
I saw this at the Fringe Fundraiser so cannot comment on this show except to say that Gibbs on a bad day is better than most Fringe plays. I am sure this is a worthy look see.

One of the Fringe's Best!
I saw the original Antoine Feval 2 years ago, and this is just as witty and delightful. Charming and a great laugh. MUCH higher quality than your average Fringe show! You'll love it.
