True Patriot Love LaunchMAY 8, CONVOCATION HALL
Who says Michael Ignatieff, leader of the federal Liberal party, is a cosmopolitan elitist? Underneath all that worldly erudition, including years of experience teaching at Oxford and Harvard, is Iggy’s strong, abiding love for Canada. If only Joel Plaskett could be there to egg him on. 7pm. $20-$60. 31 King’s College Circle.

Anne of Green GablesMAY 7-24, ELGIN THEATRE
Dancap celebrates Anne of Green Gables’ centennial (funny, she doesn’t look a day over 11) by importing the celebrated musical from the Charlottetown Festival to Toronto. Apparently the show continues to be relevant because the Cuthberts are a “non-traditional family unit”; watching Anne’s antics away from redhead-crazy Prince Edward Island, however, is radical enough for us. Wed-Sat 7:30pm; Sat-Sun 2pm (except May 13 & 20, 2pm; May 14, 11am; May 21, 2pm). $25-$85. 189 Yonge. 416-644-3665.

Seminal HexMAY 7-21, STUDIO GALLERY.
“Seminal Hex” depicts the disillusionment of adolescence through the lens of twenty-somethings. Among the works are Liam Crockard’s Stash Can, which twists Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s image into an accessory for potheads, and Table of (dis)Contents, Hugh Alexander Scott-Douglas’ textbook example of pent-up anger gone wrong. An opening night performance by California rapper Bored Stiff provides an ennui-tinged musical match. Reception Thu 7-midnight. Free. 294 College, 2nd fl. 416-832-3933.

Chuck PalahniukMAY 12, ISABEL BADER THEATRE
With several of his novels having been adapted into Hollywood films (Fight Club — yes! Choke — no!), American cult novelist Chuck Palahniuk is not so obscure these days. Trust EYE WEEKLY’s Books columnist Brian Joseph Davis to pick the author’s famous brain in a conversation about his latest work, Pygmy, in which a 13-year-old “exchange student” doubles as a secret agent. 7pm. $10. 93 Charles W. 416-978-8849.
