Guelph's Hillside Festival boasts many traditions: an unwaveringly quality line-up of indie/folk Canadiana, a fantastic selection of local food vendors (mmm… Diana Downtown), drum circles, the occasional didgeridoo — and one mother of a traffic jam as the festival site clears out on Sunday night.
This weekend's edition was no different, as the narrow driveway out of the Guelph Lake Island parkland filled up with cars crawling along at an inch-per-minute — that is, with the exception of two enterprising motorists (read: assholes) who tried to beat the queue by pulling into the opposite lane and gunning it, until an oncoming festival shuttle bus forced them back into the exit line further up the road. While this kind of selfish driving is expected in Toronto, it's rather unbecoming of a festival that prides itself on its relaxed, pastoral vibe — and one attendee wasn't having any of it. Moments after the two idiots merged back into line, a tall, familiar figure was seen getting out his vehicle and walking towards the offending motorists: Sadies guitarist Travis Good, who tapped on the drivers' windows and gave them a stern talking-to. Upon returning to his car, Good was greeted with cheers from other drivers in line, responding, "They think their time is more important than yours!" Dude, we've always got time for you.
