Gus the Other Barber (596 Bloor W., 416-534-9077) is already something of an institution for guys who want the straight-razored goods. But this soccer-fan’s paradise (the walls are covered in European football jerseys and posters) isn’t just a boys’ club. A hand-markered sign caught my eye as I wandered from a Bathurst patio party to Baskin-Robbins the other day: “Get one manicure,” it promised, “and get the second one free.”
Turns out old Gus has an aesthetician on hand, and she wants your digits. If you’re a new customer, pay $15 for the first friendly, competent manicure and the second visit’s on the house. How cute would it be for a couple to book a buff-and-polish alongside a lather-and-rinse? The money you’ll save will be immediately and happily spent on two scoops, two spoons and a seat in Christie Pits.
