“Mom-trepeneur” Lauren Wise has a mini stimulus plan for the hyper-local economy: Shop the Block/ It’s a members-only discount card that gets you up to 20 per cent off purchases at participating Toronto boutiques, restaurants, and fancy service providers. The cost is $65 per year; think of it as a cuter Costco membership. Right now, the list of 50-plus addresses is skewed way uptown, toward the yummy mummies — there’s Liv by Au Lit, Italian fine food shop Tutto Pronto, Spynga yoga and cycling, and no less than four businesses whose names begin with “Forest Hill.” But word has it Wise wants to bring the discounts downtown, too. For info, visit shoptheblock.ca.
