Not to be confused with the Boston-based jangle-pop outfit of the '90s, Canadian rapper Belly (dude cleaned up at the Junos) enlisted the help of Canadian video director RT! to work some movie magic for his simplistic single “Hot Girl” — featuring a guest verse by none other than Snoop Dogg. While we appreciate that a rapper with a strong likeness to Hurley on Lost can garner the throng of thongs witnessed here, both the single and video seem a little simplistic. Get ur Belly on (ew) with a free mixtape available for download here. Could he be the next Sean Paul?
TIMBER TIMBRE SLAYS From now until midnight on Halloween, Timber Timbre’s self-titled album will be available for free download on his website. Why commit to nothing? The album is this year’s best (who said so? We did), and the de facto soundtrack to a spooky kind of love. Not convinced? Here’s a song that could rattle a graveyard:
CAMERA OBSCURA ARE "THE SWEETEST THIING"Camera Obscura do Scottish twee absurdity better than anyone in their new video for “The Sweetest Thing” (not to be confused with the lackluster Cameron Diaz comedy of the same name). Enjoy more fake mustaches, '60s afros and slutty Halloween costumes than you can handle, with a winsome Traceyanne Campbell in almost-drag! You can thank me later... in a graveyard.
XXX GIRLS! In what might be the most unsafe for work video yet (unless you are watching actual pornography), Girls' XXX recut of their video for “Lust For Life” has more indie-rock boobies than ever before. Plus, a penis microphone, bubblegum girl-on-girl makeouts, naked gynnastics and an uncomfortable George Michael lookalike. Let American Apparel come to you over at Pitchfork.AKON FIGHTS CLUB Akon said knock you out. At least, he would if he could stop punching people for more than half a minute. The Daily Swarm chronicles the rapper’s greatest hits, from slapping a woman at a concert in South Africa, to throwing a kid off the stage. (Please note that this behaviour is not tolerated by EYE WEEKLY and, in fact, it both alarms and disturbs us greatly, which is why we refuse to make the "Smack That" joke that would be just too easy.)
