Required Reading: November 2, 2009

1. Hi kittens! So I was on holiday for a week and then I got a new computer at work that I don’t know how to operate (WTF MACINTOSH) so extra thanks to Chris Bilton for picking up all my slack and then cleaning my apartment (just kidding, I did that by myself). Let’s celebrate by reading the best Required Reading suggestion ever (thanks to Chandler Levack, who is hard at work with headphones on at present), from the blog of the great band Titus Andronicus, about playing the V--- magazine Halloween party.

2. In the wake of David Letterman’s, um, whatever the antonym of “personal apotheosis” is, lest we forget that Jay Leno is a better guy with a way less obnoxious face (and who’s wife is this superstar feminist-activist type). Here's a great, honest interview with double-denim fan Leno about his 10pm show (which isn’t doing awesome) and Letterman and other “Whattayagonnado” stuff. 

3. EYE WEEKLY dudes Brian Joseph Davis and Stuart Berman (incest is best) collaborate on a playlist about Toronto bands, for an IFOA-related piece in the Globe, with Davis picking the acts and Berman saying stuff about them.

4. Just sent this excellent list of 100 things that servers in restaurants should never do. I’m not a committed foodie or whatever, but I worked with a friend on a chapter for the upcoming Coach House book The Edible City (think uTOpia, but food), which is largely about the failures of the service institution in Toronto.

5. This is what happens when your industry tanks: a Washington Post editor punches a writer in the newsroom because his story was bad. AMAZING! Also amazing is that the Post’s Style section is allegedly known for running “immature” writers. I’m there.
