Totally Wired: music news

Where are my friends tonight?

We here at Totally Wired have such a hard on for Noah Baumbach, we’re basically prepubescent boys. So it’s no surprise that we love (love!) the trailer for the director’s forthcoming Greenberg, which basically features all of our favourite things, including russet-coloured cableneck sweaters, the sentiment “life is wasted on… people” and James Murphy as soundtrack supervisor, complete with a sublime use of LCD Soundystem's "All My Friends." Finally a mid life crisis film where the main character can’t drive! I cannot wait.

Inside Ezra’s Room

SPIN offers a look inside the room of Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig this month (conducted by the awesome Stacey Anderson), and the finds are unsurprising. The dude loves Liberte yogurt, Evelyn Waugh, boat shoes and Zabar’s. See footage of his BK apartment here.

New Fucked Up!
Get floored by the announcement that, on Jan. 26, 2010, Matador will release Couple Tracks, a comp of Fucked Up singles that includes 25 tracks from 2007 to 2008. Among them is the riveting “Neat Parts,” a blistering single you can stream here. Here’s the explanation straight from frontman Damian Abraham’s mouth:

“Neat Parts contains an acoustic guitar. The only thing you can do with a guitar that’s more embarrassing than sitting in a studio with headphones on playing an acoustic guitar, is riding the subway with one strapped to your back so everyone knows you are going to band practice. Otherwise this is a snappy little bside. The title doesn’t mean anything, it just sounds cool. I think we might have seen it written on the wall at our practice space. The drum beat from this song and ‘Teenage Problems’ is taken from the Undertones song ‘My Perfect Cousin.’”

Final Fantasy makes lamb loin
Guess who’s coming to dinner? Toronto violinist Owen Pallett cooked lamb loin with razor-clam ragu at the Williamsburg loft set of Dinner With The Band, an IFC show that says what it is. After debuting “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” — the first single from the forthcoming Heartland — Pallett performed the maudlin, melodramatic “Keep The Dog Quiet." Watch the stirring performance here.
