1. Remember 3rd Bass? How about “Pop Goes the Weasel”? Well, aside from writing 1991’s catchiest antidote to fake-ass rapper Vanilla Ice (who, incidentally, was played by Henry Rollins in that song’s iconic video), 3rd Bass MC Prime Minister Pete Nice (a.k.a. Peter Nash) is also a hardcore collector of sports memorabilia. Sports Illustrated tracks the strange trajectory of Nash’s post-rap career.

2. Bill Hicks once said if George Bush thinks we are losing the war on drugs, the people on drugs are winning. It looks like the US government is finally coming around to a more sensible approach to the problem of addiction, due in part to the country’s new number-two drug czar: Dr. A. Thomas McLellan. This guy not only hates government, he hates his job; but that’s not going to stop him from changing America’s drug policy to one that attempts to help addicts, rather than punish them.

3. While we’re on the subject of judging the life choices of others, here’s Slate's practical exploration of the terminal dumbness of tech-savvy philanderers.

4. We promise that we’re not turning this column into a “Best Of” list aggregator, but it’s nearly impossible to ignore something as noteworthy as Rolling Stone’s artist-curated decade in review. (Note: you really only need to read the first dozen.) You’ll be surprised who isn’t afraid to admit they still really like Kelis’ dessert anthem “Milkshake.”

5. There’s something about garage rocker Jay Reatard that seems to bring out the worst in people. We’ve had our share of Reatard-ed violence here in Toronto, so news of fan-on-singer violence at last night’s Austin show shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Maybe Jay should borrow Wayne Coyne’s plastic bubble.
