Do you honestly expect me to believe that there isn’t one up-and-coming female chef in the city of Toronto who should have been on that list of “those to watch” in the culinary community? (“The new Toronto cuisine,” Cover, March 20.) I’m a hardcore foodie in this city, and writer Edward Keenan needs to haul his taste buds right back out on the pavement of Toronto to have another look around. Lots of predictably trendy spots on his list.

Butt out
In reading EYE WEEKLY last week, I have come to realize that there may be certain loopholes in the cigarette ad ban in Canada. I find it distracting and disgusting that you accept and allow tobacco companies to advertise with you. For a magazine that likes to point the finger at any wrongdoer,
the finger should be pointed at you for allowing such disgusting ads. JULIA HART

I am sooooo disappointed to see cigarette ads in your paper. It’s a sad day for Canada. It was the one thing for me that really set Canada apart from the US. What’s next, billboards with the Marlboro man scattered throughout the Gardiner and on Queen Street?! I looked through NOW magazine this week and, yup, no cig ads there. I hope that other tabs and pubs don’t follow suit. I believe that a great company and publication such as this should lead by example. VAHID SEYFAIE

Dental damage
Re “Looking a Problem In the Teeth,” Editorial, March 20: Your editorial asks why procedures such as dental work are not covered “by our universal healthcare program.” Is the editorial board at EYE WEEKLY suggesting that all dental coverage be covered through taxes? If so, should all private dental practices be brought under state control? Indeed, if this policy ever became a reality, might I alert the citizens in this province to be prepared to suffer on a waiting list for dental care, much like we do with our so-called healthcare system. The unions gave us Harris
Ted Turner’s letter (“Any which Rae you like it,” March 20) accusing Bob Rae of bringing in the Harris government is totally wrong. Rae correctly realized that in the difficult economic climate of the time, job sharing would be better than layoffs. The unions thought they could have their own way and, lacking a viable Liberal candidate, voted Conservative. Those same unionists were in Maple Leaf Gardens soon after Harris began his Aggressive Conservative assault. That repudiated philosophy is now affecting all Canadian workers at the hands of Jim Flaherty.... RICHARD SIMON
