Re “Is Joe for real? Apparently so…,” Notebook, Jan. 21: While Mr. Pantalone could be a better mayor than others in some important ways, he’s got too many carbungles to warrant first-line support.

It’s revisionist to suggest “he had a pivotal role in killing” the Front St. Extension, a.k.a. “The Pantalone Parkway,” unless he finally realized that the majority of councillors were killing it off anyway. And you should be truly alarmed that he’s still boosting a local Front Street Extension road at circa $70 million. We still seem unable to explore effective transit along Front Street as suggested 20 years ago in the Downtown Relief line. The transit option Joe wants, the West Waterfront LRT, is likely inadequate (at least its EA suggests so) and maybe we could save a few hundred million by boosting GO service instead.

With the Front Street Extension, Joe was keen on “completing the grid” — but only for cars, and he has pretty well ignored beginning a safe cycling grid for east-west cyclists through Pantalonia, especially on the few main streets that have good connections to Parkdale and beyond.

He also promoted a path project at the top of Montrose that would have killed off a number of good trees; and way back in his 29 years of service, he voted for a bridge to the island.
Sure, Joe for Mayor. But also Adam. And we’ll see who of several candidates gets in. » Hamish Wilson

DOOMSDAY CULT?
Re “Cruel intentions,” cover story, Jan. 21: So with this MF DOOM thing goin’ on, has he been caught a few times doin fake shows with fake MF DOOMs on stage? And as for his lyrics, does this mean he might also belong to some kind of cult or something? I’ve been sent some proof about Jay-Z, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Kanye, etc. being in some kind of cult. Don’t tell me DOOM, Raekwon and Gorillaz might be part of something as well. Or did I look into the last part of the article wrong? » NAME WITHHELD
