Jayde Nicole, born almost 22 years ago in Scarborough, would like your vote in the pageant to pick 2008 Playboy Playmate of the Year. She was Miss January (as in a full year ago), which means that 11 other candidates might be fresher in most memories. But the promise of $100,000, a new car and motorcycle, plus another pictorial and PMOY title is worth reminding people of her centerfold for.
This despite widespread speculation that democracy does not really factor into which centerfold earns Hugh Hefner’s tiara, considering how the last two winners were indistinguishable from his blonde companions on The Girls Next Door reality show. Maybe he can’t tell the difference anymore. Hef will be 82 this year — give his taste a break, he won’t be doing this job forever.
Consider that the most recent Playmates are near about young enough to be his daughters — from his second marriage, at age 63.
Playboy hasn’t given up trying to be relevant, though. Last fall, they launched an online social network for college students, roundly by everyone except perhaps for its dozen or so active users.
Jayde, however, is bidding to be part of tradition. She points out that it’s been 26 years since a Canadian was picked as the Playmate of the Year, and that was St. John’s, Newfoundland native Shannon Tweed. Can a career starring in straight-to-Blu-Ray erotic thrillers and pseudo-marriage to Gene Simmons’ son Nick be in Jayde's future? The only way to find out is to help her win.
Making an informed selection might be a challenge given how recent Playmates lack for distinguishing characteristics, whether it’s the hair on their heads or lack of it on their bodies. (And whatever happened to tan lines?) But what Jayde uniquely boasts is a Gothic font tattoo right below her navel that reads “respect.”
“I got it about four years or so ago,” she says in an email conversation with Scrolling Eye. “I had a terrible relationship experience and I got it to remind me NEVER to let a guy or anyone treat you with disrespect!! The only reason it is where it is, is because I was and still am a swimsuit model and that was the only place I could hide it! I never imagined I would be posing nude and everyone in the world would see it, lol! It was meant for my eyes only!”
Hef must’ve thought it OK, though. “He loves it. That’s why he left it in instead of airbrushing it out.”
Would it not be a compliment to think that Jayde looks better with some clothes on? (Not Not Safe For Work, probably.) Her winter-themed pictorial prominently featured a red and white striped scarf, and come to think of it there aren’t any fetish sites out there dedicated to women draped in cold-weather accessories.
The locally born Playmate is currently one of 8,500 residents of Port Perry, Ontario, where she runs a modeling agency — although she spent New Year’s Eve partying at the Playboy Mansion with celebrities she couldn’t necessarily name. (Some educated guesses would include Dick Van Patten, James Caan, Buck Henry, Pauly Shore, Fred Durst, Bill Maher, Vince Neil, and Vince Van Patten.)
Jayde also reports that at least two people have gotten tattoos of her image on them, and at least two more are indelibly stamped with her signature. “That’s insane,” she confesses. “Very flattering for me, though.”
