The great unmentionable secret among the downtown chattering classes is that the Island Airport is no longer a political issue. After the taxpayer-funded bridge was effectively killed, Porter Airlines started up and seems to have won over the guilt-ridden hearts of many Torontonians who were previously against it. Whispers of admiration for an airport and airline experience without the usual indignities can be overheard in cafés, on blogs and in Facebook and Twitter updates. Though there still may be no love for the Toronto Port Authority, the rogue agency we love to hate, Porter has quietly become just another part of the city.
