'Charlie' was an experiment. I wanted to do something really disturbing, but with showing almost nothing. My wife was absolutely horrified at the idea (we have two little boys) and said "No way. And you can't use any of our stuff."
For 'Broken Trees', I wanted to add to the story of Charlie, but without necessarily answering the really interesting questions. Is it a sequel? is it a prequel? Does it explain things more clearly?
