To mark the 20th anniversary of definitely-maybe the best debut album of all time, The Stone Roses will see their seminal 1989 work celebrated in a varied assortment of formats and packaging, ranging from Special Editions to Collectors Editions. The original LP's 11 tracks have been remastered by producer John Leckie and Roses frontman Ian Brown. With its mix of jangledelic pop and swirling rhythms, all tied together by Brown's wistful yet grandoise vocals and vision, the Roses’ debut would serve as the launching point for a generation of British music that continues today. Among the extras are lost demos, a concert DVD, photos and words from the band’s musical fans including Noel Gallagher and Tim Burgess. Look for the works to be released through Silvertone/Legacy Aug. 11.
WALLA OF SOUND
Death Cab for Cutie guitarist/producer Chris Walla has long been a huge fan of Canadian bands and artists. As he once again preps to enter the studio with native daughters Tegan and Sara to work on the follow up to their fine 2007 effort The Con (which will see the twins writing together for the first time) and with whispers of more Canuck collaborations on the way, June will see a couple of his recent production clients come to town. Too Many Dynamos — the St. Louis angular dance band whose Walla produced-disc, The Loud Wars (Vagrant), hits stores June 9 — play the El Mocambo June 7 along with Maps & Atlases. And on June 10, Telekinisis — the project of Seattle wunderkind Micheal Lerner — plays the Horsehoe in support of his just released Walla-recorded self titled debut disc on Merge Records. And B.C.'s Jets Overhead — of whom Walla speaks fondly — are at the ’Shoe June 9 on the heels of their new LP No Nation (out on Microgroove/Warner June 2).
