Frank Turner
JAN 26, HORSESHOE TAVERN, 368 QUEEN W.
Frank Turner and Jack Kerouac have both spent a lot of time on the road. That might explain why Turner’s third album, Poetry of the Deed, sounds a lot like Kerouac’s blank verse, albeit with hints of punk rock. No cover. 10pm. (If you miss him, Turner’s also playing the Dakota Tavern on Jan. 27 with Ian Blurton and Huron.)

To Haiti With Love
JAN 24, BUDDIES IN BAD TIMES, 12 ALEXANDER
You don’t need us to remind you how devastated Haiti is. But if you’re looking for a good time, this fundraiser from our LGBTQ community — hosted by Trey Anthony (Da Kink In My Hair) and featuring everything from downtempo crew LAL to diva and co-organizer Ryan G. Hinds (pictured) — is a fine way to supplement the donation you’ve already made. (Hint, hint.) 8pm. $10.

Rock Plaza Central
JAN 23, THE GARRISON, 1197 DUNDAS W.
If you love the sound of superior musicianship enveloping Chris Eaton’s inspired lyrics like a tea cozy, this might be your last chance to catch the folk-rock collective, at least in the flesh — they’re giving up touring. With Church & State, The Pining. $10. 9pm.

The Necks
JAN 23, THE MUSIC GALLERY, 197 JOHN
This Aussie trio improvise their dreamy jazz experiments, so don’t expect to hear their trance-like melodies exactly as you did on their albums. Even if they cherry-pick a “greatest hits” setlist from their past 23 years of music-making, you’ll still be listening to something new at each show. $20. 8pm.

Out Of This Spark 3rd Anniversary
JAN 22, THE GARRISON, 1197 DUNDAS W.
In three years, Stuart Duncan’s Out Of This Spark label gave us two lovely Friends In Bellwoods comps and introduced the world to Cross-Canada Critics Poll winner Timber Timbre. Can Duncan’s next three years top this? Check out bands like The D’Urbervilles, Forest City Lovers and more to find out. $8. 9pm.
