1. She is a folk-rock singer from St. John’s, Newfoundland, who recently signed to Toronto’s Six Shooter Records. Six Shooter last year re-released her album War Brides, which Curran made three years ago in producer Phil Sedore’s living room.

“It’s the little album that could,” says Curran. “We just made it over the course of two months to have something to sell at a festival we were playing. But if I’d realized how well it was going to do, it might not have been as simple and as good as it is,” Curran says.

2. Although she plays regular shows in Toronto, this is the first time in four years that she’s played at CMW/CMF. “I used to play at Cameron House and The Dakota, and lately The Mod Club,” she says. “I love the back room of the Cameron House. I used to work in theatre so I’m a bit of a sucker for that cabaret kind of place.”

3. She is currently touring with country rock singer and labelmate Luke Doucet. “Luke and his band are really easy to get along with, and the crowds have been really wonderful,” says Curran, although she admits to being “really pooped from being on the road.”

4. She has an as-yet-untitled new album on the way, which she plans to take two weeks off from touring to finish up this month. The album is the first she’s made in her native St. John’s; all the others have been made in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where Curran has been based for the last 10 years. “I know there are a lot of Novia Scotians playing [at CMF] who I’ll be happy to see, because I haven’t been home in so long,” she says. The album is set to hit the shelves late this summer.

5. You can see Amelia Curran play on Saturday, March 14. Reverb, 651 Queen W. With Jenn Grant, Melissa McClelland, Wendy McNeil and Moriarty. 11pm. Admission: $15 advance, or with CMF wristband, available at www.canadianmusicfest.com.
