ESCAPE THE FATE PLAY THE SOUND ACADEMY (11 POLSON) NOV 15.

Escape the Fate are apparently modelling themselves after ’80s/’90s  cock-rock, and I can see the similarity, at least visually. Musically, however, this is the closest thing to garbage I’ve experienced since I cleaned off my tray at Wendy’s yesterday. It’s typical Hot Topic rock, packed with inexplicable growling and soaringly irritating melodic vocal twists from singer Craig Mabbitt. (Mabbitt joined the band after former singer Ronnie Radke headed to the slammer, thanks to his violent, drug-addled antics.) This is by-the-book emo/math-hardcore, with trite lyrics (“give me wings so I can fly”), sunglasses, a soul patch and the intention to impregnate teenagers with bad musical habits. Unforgivable.
