SING IT LOUD PLAY THE OPERA HOUSE (735 QUEEN E) WITH COBRA STARSHIP NOV 25.
Sing It Loud are the latest bubblegum merchants to try their luck with the tried-and-true MySpace emo band business model. Yet even by disposable pop-punk standards, Come Around is a horrible record. This is the same four-chord hyper-slop that’s regurgitated weekly on MuchOnDemand: replete with gooey, nasal crooning; mushy keyboard-tinkling; wimpy, static drumming; and whiney, cuckolded ranting. While triteness and unoriginality are generally bad things, the band actually sound most bearable when directly ripping off more established emo outfits. “We’re Not Afraid” is a dead ringer for a Motion City Soundtrack song, largely because it features the band’s lead singer. On the track of the same name, vocalist Pat Brown tearfully implores “Don’t Save Me.” Since he and his band stand inches away from falling into obscurity, it’s probably best we abide by his wishes.
