Yorkville Park: Long-time Torontonians remember the parking lot that ran along Cumberland Avenue in the heart of Yorkville that languished for over 30 years, while older residents recall the Victorian row houses that were there before. Though the houses were cleared to make way for the subway, in 1991 an overdue design competition chose a bid by Oleson Worland Architects for a linear park that marked the ghosts of those row houses with distinct environments including a pine forest, a marsh and an orchard. Though controversial at the time because of the cost, the giant rock shipped in from the Canadian Shield has become a favourite meeting spot in Toronto.
