“Opening the first of back-to-back nights by Montreal’s The Stills, Sebastien Grainger and Co. provided an impressive update on his post-Death From Above 1979 progress, plowing through their near-hour-long set with a focused tenacity that had more than a few heads bobbing along. Over the past year or so they’ve been slowly amassing and refining collection of tunes, which now combines glammy party-rock with the grind of a less beastly Motörhead-style rhythm section.
With Grainger resigned to guitar, it’s still fairly clear that these songs are written from a drummer’s perspective — and good on them. Bassist Nick Sewell (ex-Illuminati) and drummer Leon Taheny's grooves are as meaty as they come, and while Grainger’s guitar-playing is far less impressive than his singing, his choice of guitar — a classy flying V — proved a most effective implement when he wielded it like a divining rod in search of feedback.”
