DJ Spotlight

Gani

BY Elizabeth Mitkos   March 26, 2008 16:03

WHO milk. has done this city good. For over 11 years, the event promotions team consisting of resident DJ Gani alongside Felix and host Izzy has brought some of the world’s wildest and sexiest music to our best venues, including 99 Sudbury and Sunnyside Pavilion. Often teaming up with funky forces such as Garage 416 and Movement, Gani et al. have carefully organized local and international talent covering house, hip-hop, reggae and drum ‘n’ bass. It takes much planning and consideration to bring in acts as diverse as Fatboy Slim, Dimitri From Paris, Matthew Dear, Thomas Bangalter, King Sunshine and Jazzanova, so naturally, Gani worries. “I’m a bundle of nerves if the dancefloor isn’t full or if there isn’t a lineup outside.” Gani first took to the decks with friends Mika Katilla, Matt Eastman and Richard Lo around ‘96 when milk. started out in the Kensington Market, and is currently inspired by deep techno and “a tiny bit of this electro stuff that’s floating around.” These days in between bi-monthly events, Gani is mixing radio shows with friends and guest DJs on milkaudio.com — and sweating about the next event’s success. Though, undoubtedly, Gani, Felix and Izzy will uphold milk.’s stellar track record at their gig featuring Mr. Scruff in an intimate setting as they excitedly plan to team up with Brooks Events again this summer.
