Canadian Ultimate Championships Aug 9-12 2007

Toronto is full of 'em. Ultimate Frisbee players, that is. Whether they're part of the less competitive sport and social club scene or competing in well-known leagues such as the Toronto Ultimate Club, ulties (about 3,000 of them) are everywhere!

Ultimate is played on a 120 x 40 yard field. Teams of seven players compete in what is best described as Frisbee meets football, basketball and soccer. The game is self-officiated, so players are responsible for making their own foul and line calls.

This Thursday through Sunday, the best 80 Ultimate teams from across Canada will converge at Sunnybrook Park for the Canadian Ultimate Championships. Teams will compete for positions at the World Championships taking place in Vancouver in 2008. Over 1,500 athletes will be participating.

Toronto's teams are well positioned in the rankings heading into the tournament, which will no doubt make for an awesome weekend for the hometown favourites! Teams to watch include Goat (2006 Open Champions), Capitals (an elite combo of Toronto and Ottawa women), Snipe (Toronto's top mixed team), Tombstone (masters 33+) and Dirt (juniors 14-18). Get out there and cheer them on!

Games will take place daily from 8:30am to 7pm and the finals go down on Sunday at U of T's Varsity Stadium. Spectators can get in on all the action at no charge through Saturday and $5 will get you into Varsity Stadium on Sunday to watch the finals. www.cuc07.com.
