St. Clair reservoir

BY Shawn Micallef   April 16, 2008 14:04

One of Toronto’s hidden lakes is at Sir Winston Churchill Park by the St. Clair and Spadina intersection. Though it looks like a standard park with tennis courts and dozens of fancy Forest Hill dogs romping around, underneath is one of Toronto’s 10 water storage reservoirs. Completed in 1930, when we built public works with great style, the pumphouse buildings towards the southwest corner of the park are mini versions of the grand R.C. Harris Filtration Plant. Stand on top of the south “cliff” to see the magnitude of the structure, and look down into Nordheimer Ravine, under which is buried Castle Frank Brook.
