Canadian techno DJs like Richie Hawtin are well known, but there was a stretch when our house music largely consisted of Chris Sheppard. This exceedingly slick comp, ably mixed by local mainstay Deko-Ze, proves we’ve got enough thrumming basslines and arpeggiated leads to fill the clubs on our own. Much-hyped newcomer deadmau5 makes an appearance with “Fifths,” but other than that track and M1’s buoyant “Unravel,” this is a divas-and-bombast-heavy set that makes no concessions to trendy electro-house. Songs like Cajjmere Wray’s “Naughty Girls” venture into outright cheese, but as big-room house goes, these tracks stand shoulder to shoulder with the big boys.
