With grace and fervour, Gemma Wilcox plays a young couple in a rut, an older couple who have maintained their spark and the animals that surround them all. At first, the over-familiarity of fighting-couple scenes and the oddness of squawking-in-a-chicken-coop scenes are off-putting. But slowly she wins you over with her pristine acting and seamless transitions from male to female and human to animal. She maximizes space and movement throughout the performance, telling the story from a variety of angles as she takes on the voice and spirit of every living being involved.
