Revolving around a vivacious South American factory worker with a donkey named Diego and a penchant for licking salsa off of her lovers, Lupe: Undone might not shatter cultural stereotypes, but it does challenge our notion of the painful one-person performance. Melissa D’Agostino’s title character is outlandishly hilarious yet undeniably human, exchanging warm, witty banter with the audience as she waits for her boyfriend, David Mirvish, to arrive. Due in part to its improvised, interactive nature, Lupe: Undone can feel undercooked, particularly at its anti-climatic close. But it’s hard to stay mad at a show that offers audience members free chips and salsa.
