Sara Hennessey Time

BY Paul Gallant   July 03, 2008 09:07

In this potty-mouthed Sarah Silverman age, Sara Hennessey’s sassy stand-up feels virtually old-fashioned. She impersonates her wholesome parents. She does routines about childhood escape fantasies, teen angst, bad Facebook breakups, drinking, barfing and death (one of her ideas for a tombstone epitaph is “I ruled”). You’d think the rocker-dude talk would get tired after a while, but Hennessey is so genuinely likeable and confident, all the faux-screaming is forgiven. A surreal segment about an inner-city teacher borrows too baldly from Amy Sedaris’ seminal Strangers With Candy, but demonstrates a versatility that makes Hennessey one to watch.
