DJ FALCON
With DJs Nasty Nav, St. Mandrew. Fri, July 25. Wrongbar, 1279 Queen W. $12.50 tickets at Wantickets.com.
Parisian DJ Falcon may not release a great deal, but this member of the Daft Punk crew makes every record and — when DJing — song selection count. His 1999 remix of Cassius’ “La Mouche” gets steady play to this day, as does 2002’s beautiful “So Much Love to Give,” an instant filtered-house classic he produced with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter as Together. Falcon tours the globe regularly, DJing at most Daft Punk shows and after-parties including the infamous event at the Mod Club last August. Falcon’s DJ sets are funky and playful, filled with both classics and out-there tracks.
ADHAM SHAIKH @ KAJAMA MIDNIGHT BOAT CRUISE
With DJs Noah Pred, Chocolate. Fri, July 25. Boarding at 235 Queens Quay W. $35 advance tickets at Moog/Slinky, Shanti Baba. Boat sails midnight to 4am.
I can’t imagine a more snug programming fit than having BC-based musician, producer and DJ Adham Shaikh spin at this annual alieninflux and Promise party. Shaikh both produces and mixes lovely, bass-heavy midtempo tracks rooted in dub, reggae and Indian ragas. It’s heady stuff filled with heavy rhythms, spacey beats and warm instrumentation. I’ve watched many an audience fall under Shaikh’s spell, and hearing his song selections float through the historic sailing ship Kajama will be a treat. Note: advance tickets are recommended.
TONY HUMPHRIES @ THE DEEP END VOL. IX
With Dajae (live), DJs Andy Roberts, Mark & Steve. Fri, July 25. The Mod Club, 722 College. $20 advance tickets at Play De Record, Cosmos, Wantickets.com, Milkaudio.com.
Mixed Signals and Boogie Inc. again present one of house music’s most beloved and ever-evolving legends, Tony Humphries. The New Jersey–based icon is simply one of the genre’s best DJs, always putting fresh twists on his sets of rich, deep and funky house. Adding to his long list of accomplishments, Humphries started Tony Records two years ago and has released over a dozen singles, ranging from spiritual to techy. Chicago’s Dajae — the distinctive voice behind anthems including “Brighter Days” — sang on the label’s seventh release, “Tonight” by Bernard Badie, and performs live here.
JOSH MILAN (BLAZE) @ GARAGE 416
With DJs Nick Holder, Dirty Dale, Moreno, Blueprint. Sat, July 26. Toika Lounge, 471 Richmond W. $15 advance tickets at Milkaudio.com.
Josh Milan is one of the founding members of highly influential soulful house act Blaze. The pianist and two friends founded the project in 1984, with Milan and Kevin Hedge continuing to Blaze trails to this day. The last two decades have seen the duo release hundreds of uplifting, gospel-infused records, including remixes for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Macy Gray and Jamiroquai. Expect Milan’s love of jazz, soul and funk — particularly artists like Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire — to seep into his mix as he headlines this two-floor affair.
