When the Beaver Cafe on Queen West gets busy at night, it's expected that you'll have to squeeze past people leaning against the bar to place a drink order. What's not so expected is that you'll be squeezing past Thom Yorke. Enjoying a Thursday night out before his band plays a sold-out Molson Amphitheatre this evening, the Radiohead frontman and his entourage — which included producer Nigel Godrich, Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright and their chapperone for the evening, Broken Social Scene frontman/Beaver regular Kevin Drew — were stationed at the bar, enjoying the DJ's procession of '80s pop hits. Upon hearing the opening strums of The Smiths' "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out," Yorke stepped out to dance and sing along. But the revelry was short lived: the follow-up track, Gowan's "Moonlight Desires" produced a noticeable grimace and sent our Thom scurrying for the door.
