EBONY BONES
With special guests New Look and DJs Andy Capp and Geoff Snack. Thu, Aug 21. The Drake Underground, 1150 Queen W. $16.50 advance tickets at Rotate This.
Loud and live from London, England, Ebony Bones and her seven-piece psychedelic electro band will make what promises to be a magical North American debut. The fierce, boundary-blurring singer and musician is an explosion of energy on stage with sassy tracks such as “I’m Ur Future X-Wife” and “Don’t Fart on My Heart.” She first posted productions on a blank MySpace page and let the music speak for itself, garnering worldwide attention including nods from Timbaland, Massive Attack and Basement Jaxx. With her colourful and crazy attitude, Bones proves it’s originality that earns attention.

With Martino. Fri, Aug. 22. Great Hall, 1087 Queen W. $15 advance. $20 door.
There’s something special about radio, when a knowledgeable, articulate host takes you to another place. Even better is seeing a passionate DJ and prolific radio jock like Lars Behrenroth perform in person. The Los Angeles–based DJ, producer and remixer has been spinning since the mid-’80s and is widely known for his long-running show Deeper Shades of House, now on XM Radio. With Behrenroth playing alongside burgeoning Toronto house talent Martino, who’s also keeping house music alive on web radio with Soulstream Networks, it looks like the makings of a memorable night.

ROLLER DISCO EXPERIENCE
With Leisure Larry & Terry D. Sun, Aug. 24 at Harry Gairey Outdoor Rink in Alexandra Park at Bathurst & Dundas. 1pm. $8 from Shanti Baba. Kids under 12 free.
Get your groove on while balancing on roller skates. Toronto mainstays Terry D and Leisure Larry are at it again with their second annual outdoor Roller Disco party. DJ and promoter Larry Borins has been bringing people together in warehouses, clubs and parks since the mid-‘90s. Always an advocate for diverse, inclusive and socially aware events, Borins invites everyone to bring their inner child out for disco, funk and fun in the sun at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
RED TURTLE
With DJ Fuckers. Wed, Aug. 27 at The Raq, 739 Queen W. $5.
Staying out late on a weeknight is always sweeter in summertime. Nice of the DJ Fuckers collective, then, to transform The Raq (formerly Raq ‘n’ Waq) into a pool hall-meets-dancefloor-meets-patio party for everyone. Promoter Erica Kelly and DJs Adam Addison and Fawn Big Canoe along with special guests mix up house, hip-hop, disco, breaks, rock and electro for an equally mixed crowd. While DJ Fuckers just announced they’ll continue their Wednesday night events into fall, this week’s special guest DJ Red Turtle (from now-defunct local record shop 2TheBeat) brings breaks worth saluting the summer to. Oh yeah, and if you need more incentive, cover includes free pool.
Denise Benson returns with DB's Best Bets next week.
