House Call

Radio city

BY Jasmyn Burke   August 27, 2008 15:08

WHO: Kelowna Vincent, “30-something,” DJ/programmer for The Verge 52 on XM Satellite Radio

WHAT: One-room studio in the Chocolate Factory Lofts on Queen West.

HOW LONG: Almost two years.

HOW MUCH: $1,200 per month.

THE STORY: The Chocolate Factory Lofts are split into two sides: the new building and the old building. Vincent’s room is on the “weathered” side, meaning she has beautiful old brick lining the walls. The studio is small, but Kelowna takes advantage of every nook — she has a Murphy bed that she can flip up to allow space for her computer equipment. “You wouldn’t think that I could fit in here, but it’s like Tetris,” she says. “Friends’ have said it’s cozy, and they’re not just being kind — they think it’s really comfortable.” Describing her home as creatively inspirational, Vincent also loves the exposed air ducts. The only problem is that one of her two cats — named Lil’ Bean and Baerp — has figured out how to get on top of the ducts, which has resulted in creepy shadows moving along the ceiling during the night.

KELOWNA VINCENT IS A RESIDENT DJ EVERY THURSDAY AT TATTOO ROCK PARLOUR (567 QUEEN W., MAIN FLOOR) SPINNING MODERN AND CLASSIC ROCK.
