In this intimate study of several lives spent training at the Shaolin Temple in China (made famous by a variety of kung-fu films), the skill of the students and monks is fascinating to watch but sadly lacking in drama. The movie is little more than a detailed report about this world and without a solid arc. The patience of all but the most devoted kung fu lovers may be tested. Yet the lack of story isn’t enough to ruin the kick of watching nine-year-olds with moves that’d make Jean-Claude Van Damme wince.
