BOYS NOIZE @ ATTACK OF THE UNIBROS TOUR With A-Trak, Nasty Nav. Thu, Oct 2. This Is London, 364 Richmond W. $20.
Boys Noize is Hamburg-born, Berlin-based DJ/producer Alexander Ridha. Boysnoize Records is the label he formed in 2005, with Ridha’s noisy, filtered electro also making its way onto labels including Kitsuné and International DeeJay Gigolo. Though the tunes on his 2007 Oi, Oi, Oi album tended to be typically constructed and distorted, Ridha has shown his musical chops: in remixes for Feist, Snoop Dogg and Justice; in the house and tech he’s produced as Kid Alex; and in his Bugged Out mix CD, released earlier this year. He’s touring in support of BNR Vol 1, the very first Boysnoize label comp, and is joined by the always-awesome A-Trak.

THE BLOODY BEETROOTS
With Nasty Nav. Fri, Oct 3. Wrongbar, 1279 Queen W. $18.50 from Rotate This, Play De Record, Wantickets.com.
The Bloody Beetroots have got the buzz. This masked Italian duo come with their own take on distorted electro-punk, having already remixed the likes of MSTRKRFT, The Whip, Alex Gopher and countrymen Crookers. Their in-crowd status was sealed when they signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label as well as with their series of sweaty, high-profile gigs in LaLa land. Of course, all the comparisons to Justice don’t hurt, but The Bloody Beetroots will stand on their own terra firma with the release of their Rombo EP. A teaser is up on MySpace, just in time to get you in the mood for the gig.

DJ HEATHER
With Nick Holder, Mike Gleeson. Sat, Oct 4. Footwork, 425 Adelaide W. $20.
Chicago’s DJ Heather does it all. She’s one of the roughest, toughest and most technically gifted funky-house DJs you’ll ever hear. She’s toured relentlessly, has released mix-CDs on labels including Om and Fabric, produces, sings and has collaborated with the likes of Derrick Carter, Fred Everything, Johnny Fiasco and Greenskeepers. All this and Heather also actively runs the Blackcherry label. She returns to Footwork, joined by T.O. house legend Nick Holder, whose new album is finally done and will be released on NRK in November.

ABE DUQUE @ NUIT NOIR With Metalogic, DJs Tomasso Ferrari, Jap_, Mike Gibbs, Rudee. Sat, Oct 4. The Basement, 178 Bathurst. $15 before midnight.

This all-night deep techno affair presented by Platform will be an ideal destination for those looking to soak in original electronic sounds as a complement to checking out the art at Nuit Blanche. Making his first Toronto appearance is truly innovative NYC-based producer Abe Duque. The force behind labels including Tension, Rapture and his own Abe Duque Records, Duque has released steadily since ’92, also for high-profile labels including International Gigolo, Tresor and Disko-b. He makes gorgeously twisted techno, ranging from dub-inflected downtempo to four-on-the-floor madness. Duque will get inside your head, if you let him.

ROBERT OWENS @ SOLID GARAGE LIVE With King Sunshine, DJs Groove Institute, Albert Assoon. Sat, Oct 4. Revival, 783 College. $25; part of the proceeds go to the Children’s Aid Foundation.

Robert Owens possesses one of the most distinctive voices in house music. While living in Chicago, he blessed us — both solo and as part of projects like Fingers Inc. — with some of the genre’s most defining songs, including “Can You Feel It,” “Tears” and “I’ll Be Your Friend.” While his classics receive cheers on dance floors to this day, Owens has remained highly active as a singer, songwriter, DJ and producer. This year’s Night-Time Stories album is a must listen. Here, he’ll perform live while being accompanied by 10-piece band King Sunshine.
