Who: Courtney Wotherspoon (www.spoonstudio.com), freelance illustrator.

What:
A loft apartment at Queen and Dufferin.

1. Wotherspoon draws inspiration for her work from the many critters she keeps. “The goose is one of a pair of lights that my mom got when she was in her twenties. It’s a mid-’80s classic. My brother has the other one.”

2. Wotherspoon explains the goat in her living room: “I used to live in New York and this was at Saks Fifth Avenue (www.saksfifthavenue.com). It was some sort of cashmere promotion and these were all over the store. They weren’t for sale, but I tracked down the manager. I had it shipped to Toronto and it was the first item in the apartment. The whole living room revolves around it.”

3. Wotherspoon loves to sew pillows and this maple leaf design was the first one she ever made. “I was feeling a little nostalgic, so I made this piece of Canadiana.”

4. Wotherspoon’s interior designer mother bought this Philippe Starck Louis Ghost Chair for her at Quasi Modo (789 Queen W., 416-703-8300, www.quasimodomodern.com). “It goes with everything,” Wotherspoon says.

5. “I made the coffee table from a set of drawers I found on the street. It has rolling coasters, but I wanted one leg without, so I went looking for other, more interesting leg support,” she says. “Most people don’t even notice the skull.”

6. “I had never seen a pregnant mannequin body before. It was in my brother’s garage and when he was having a garage sale I made him give it to me. I drove home from London with it strapped in the front seat — you should have seen the number of stares!”

7. The picture of John F. Kennedy is actually an album cover for a record of some of his speeches. “It’s not a fascination with his voice or his policies,” Wotherspoon says. “I just find his face very soothing and interesting. I have a huge record collection, but I don’t even own a record player.”

8. These rolling blinds, purchased from Blinds To Go (various locations, www.blindstogo.com), are a brightly coloured burnt-orange fabric. “When the sun is really shining they give the room a nice orange glow,” Wotherspoon says.
