Who: Melissa Kuril, office manager of organic grocery delivery service
Green Earth Organics and online eco-store Green Cricket Inc.
What:
Living room of her attic apartment in Roncesvalles Village.

1. This mauve ukulele was an online buy from Canadian-based Empire Music. “I purchased it with the intention of learning to play, but it has become my boyfriend’s toy.”
2. More of a vintage shopper, Kuril was surprised to find her coffee table at a suburban big-box. “I’d been looking for a table like that for five years and I found it in a store I would usually never set foot in.”
3. Kuril bought this silkscreen TV print after ditching her set last year. The piece was a $1.50 deal from Good Catch on Queen West.
4. “It makes me feel like it’s summer all the time,” Kuril says of the deep yellow paint.
5. This series of black and white snaps is a Kuril original, from a school project. “They were taken at an old diner called The Stem that was at Queen and Spadina. I really miss it. The cooks were just amazing. It was a Toronto staple.”
6. A Secret Santa gave Kuril this gift-wrapped toy horse. “I asked for a pony. I haven’t unwrapped it yet but I think I got it! Everyone asks about it.”
7. A cityscape drawing by local artist Mike Parsons serves as the room’s centrepiece. “It’s the perfect picture of urban living.”
8. The framed floral hanging was a Value Village cheapie. It reminded Kuril of the Arts and
Crafts movement, a favourite, and she bought it right away. “Anything William Morris–looking, I really like.”
9. Kuril was a loyal subscriber to Nylon magazine for a number of years, until celebs started gracing the covers. “It used to be such a great inspiration to read and one of my favourites. It was less about Hollywood and more about independent culture.”
