Editorial Rating:

Parry Sound provides the backdrop for this unusually well-observed end-of-childhood piece, which finds a pair of 12-year-olds (Jacob Switzer and Elena Hudgins) enacting a junior Before Sunrise courtship over one faintly enchanted afternoon. Co-directors Ingrid Veninger and Simon Reynolds have wisely resisted the temptation to over-manage their young leads and the kids respond with impressively unaffected performances. They truly seem to be listening to each other, and in the best scenes, their responses have a synapse-quick spontaneity. That sincere rapport carries Only towards a conclusion that is, pleasingly, less bitter than sweet.
