Editorial Rating:

A mite too contrived for its own good but plenty amiable, the second feature by Toronto’s Randall Cole pairs Baruchel and Quaid as a hapless young gambler and a hired heavy who share an eventful afternoon on the grim and wintry streets of Hamilton. Baruchel’s jittery, motor-mouthed shtick can be as grating as Quaid’s inexplicable Australian accent but Real Time eventually finds its feet to become an enjoyably downbeat two-hander with several choice comedic moments — it always helps to have Jayne Eastwood drop by.
